The key concepts of adult education and adult learning styles are accessible to those of us who work as sexuality educators in the BDSM, Kinky, Queer, Swinger, Polyamory and other Sexually Adventurous worlds, but when we attend trainings (if we've had the opportunity) it can be tricky to ask the questions we really want to ask. How do we most effectively reach an audience about sharing their voice as erotically authentic individuals? How to we set up a room to be most effective for sharing bondage techniques? What are the most useful tools for getting our students to open up about their relationship dynamics?
Instead of one by one trying to learn how to access better adult education techniques and bring them to the sex-positive communities we serve, the idea was born of finding quality adult learning educators and bringing them to us. After a year of trying to find the right set of educators, a slice of kismet took place when I had a fateful conversation with Dan Bailey, and another with Lady Hilary and the Marine, both at Dark Odyssey Winter Fire 2008. The Sexuality Educator Training Weekend (SETW) was born out of those conversations, and after much planning around the needs of educators in our community and the needs of the student body that we serve, we are ready to bring SETW to you. Who: SETW is designed for individuals who serve as educators (or event producers) in the world of adult sexuality education. It is designed for those who work within the BDSM, Kinky, Queer, Swinger, Polyamory, Sex Magic, Tantra, Cuddle, Master/slave, Leather, Furry, Age Play, Human Animal, or any other Sexually Adventurous community. What: The Sexuality Educators Training Weekend will help you learn skill sets for effective adult education to help you have your message more effectively reach your audience. SETW also provides education amongst peers who are working in the same fields you are, providing invaluable networking and support opportunities. Through brainstorming sessions, break-out discussion groups, lecture-based learning, and direct application of learning skillsets to the classes you already teach, SETW is designed to help you become the best sexuality educator you can be. SETW is limited to 18 students plus the staff of SETW, thus providing a truly unique intimate learning environment. Where: The first SETW will take place at a privately owned location in Baltimore, Maryland. Further detail will be available upon registration. When: October 24-26 2008. See below for proposed schedule. Students will be expected to provide information before the event about themselves and the work they are currently doing as Sexuality Educators to help facilitate the staff and trainers at SETW. Further details about SETW, Pricing, Registration, Schedules, Breakdowns and much more are available at the website: http://www.passionandsoul.com/setw/ I look forward to seeing folks there! If there is enough interest in other cities (and the first one goes as well as planned), my hope is to have a SETW take place every 9 months to a year in a different city around North America. It usually costs $400-1400 to attend training weekends like this in the vanilla world, so to make this one so affordable through a desire to do outreach and education in this community (to raise the bar of the skills around Adult Education theory and technique in our communities), is very exciting to me as the event producer.
